Sunscreen Mistakes You Need To Stop Now
Are you an avid sunscreen wearer? You may be one, but are you sure you are using it the right way?
Whether you are a dedicated wearer of sunscreen or have just started using one, most people (wrongly) believe that just slathering it on your skin will do the job! What is the point of laying out your hard earned money on a sunscreen and not even being able to explore all the benefits?
In order to get the best of what your sunscreen has to offer, you need to avoid the following mistakes:
NOT WEARING A SUNSCREEN WHILE WORKING INDOORS OR DRIVING
The UVA rays can pass through window glass causing skin damage, premature ageing and even skin cancer. This means you’re exposed to harmful rays even when you are indoors. Apply sunscreen 24/7, 365 days a year.
NOT USING ENOUGH OF THE PRODUCT
Many people think applying a tiny amount is enough. But if you don’t apply enough sunscreen, you won’t get the protection it promises. Use at least a shot-glass–sized amount to cover your entire body.
SKIPPING SUNSCREEN ON CLOUDY DAYS
Clouds do NOT block UV rays. UV rays can easily penetrate through the clouds. Apply sunscreen even on cool, overcast days for complete protection.
APPLYING IT ONCE AND FORGETTING IT FOR THE REST OF THE DAY
Sunscreen wears off within two hours. Reapply regularly throughout the day, especially between 11 AM to 4 PM when UV rays are the strongest.
PICKING UP THE ONE WITH THE HIGHEST SPF
SPF indicates protection level, but differences between SPF 30, 50, and 100 are minor. SPF 30 blocks 96% of UV rays. SPF 50 blocks just 2% more. SPF 30 is sufficient if reapplied regularly.
USING THE SAME SUNSCREEN FOR GOING OUT TO A MALL AND PLAYING SPORTS
Different activities require different sunscreens. For casual outings, regular sunscreen is fine. For swimming, sports, or sweating, you need a water-resistant or sweat-proof sunscreen.
NOT PROVIDING ENOUGH ATTENTION TO ALL PARTS
Tanning often appears on eyelids, back of knees, ankles, or ears—because these areas are neglected. Apply sunscreen on all exposed parts at least 15 minutes before stepping outdoors.
