Ways To Control Thyroid

The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland located on the front of your neck, on the lower side. When there is an imbalance in the thyroid hormones, it doesn’t function as it is supposed to, which leads to various problems, such as changes in your weight, high cholesterol, etc. There are two types of thyroid issues: hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. In hyperthyroidism, your metabolism increases, causing rapid weight loss, whereas in hypothyroidism, your metabolism slows down, leading to weight gain. With a few home remedies, you can control your thyroid problems and lead a healthy life.

• Vitamin A

The best way to control your thyroid is to incorporate Vitamin A in your daily routine. Consume foods rich in Vitamin A such as yellow and green vegetables, carrots, eggs, apricots, spinach, etc.

• Butter is better

Your endocrine system benefits greatly from the intake of butter. Even if you reduce other dairy products, it’s advisable to continue consuming butter. However, always consult your doctor before making dietary changes.

• Eat mindfully

Your thyroid, located in your throat, acts as a connection between your mind and body. When you eat too fast, food reaches your stomach before your body can respond, often causing overeating. Eating slowly and mindfully allows you to enjoy each bite and helps your thyroid process the food more efficiently.

Practicing mindful eating not only improves digestion but also enhances your overall eating experience.

• Mobile phones

Excessive mobile phone usage can expose your thyroid to radiation when held close to the ear. Use earphones and keep your phone away while sleeping to minimize exposure.

• Yoga

Several yoga asanas stimulate and support the endocrine system. Physical activity improves oxygen supply, which benefits the thyroid significantly. Yoga can be practiced anywhere and requires no gym membership or equipment.

• Avoid smoking

Thiocyanate and nicotine present in cigarettes increase iodine excretion, affecting thyroid performance. It is advisable to quit smoking.

These tips are not meant to replace your medications. Always consult your doctor before making any lifestyle changes.
